What Is A Gaming Disorder
The WHO defines "gaming disorder" as a lack of control over gaming, prioritizing it above other activities, and continuing despite negative consequences.
Mental health disorders impact 14% of the global population and are projected to become leading causes of morbidity and mortality by 2030, placing a greater burden on healthcare systems. With 0.7 billion gamers worldwide and 82% of UK households owning a computer, the UK has 14% of global gaming disorder cases, leading to issues like violence, school avoidance, and family breakdowns. Research links gaming addiction to poor mental health, particularly anxiety, depression, and ADHD.
Fuel Our Mission to Support Gamers' Mental Well-being
The world of gaming connects over 3.5 billion people, but this vast and engaging landscape also carries potential risks. With growing concerns around video game addiction and gaming disorders, many susceptible individuals face challenges with limited access to specialized support, particularly here in the UK.
Mindful Gaming UK is determined to bridge this gap. Our immediate goal is to recruit and train dedicated professionals within the next six months, paving the way to launch our vital one-to-one therapy sessions.
We’re also laying the groundwork for our Mindful Gaming Centres — safe, inclusive community spaces where gamers can access therapeutic support, mindfulness workshops, and social connection. These centres will serve as local hubs for healing, education, and empowerment, starting with our pilot location in Birmingham (pending funding).
You can be a crucial part of this journey! We're actively fundraising through initiatives like our upcoming affordable driving theory test website (DVSA-licensed, launching in August 2025!), affordable Clinical Question banks (Mindful Clinical Courses is live now with MSRA question banks!) and exciting raffles with fantastic prizes and games (coming within 6 months).
